We do realise that hands on care of farm animals is not for everyone, but we also know that being in the environment that we have here is beneficial to everyone. We have for a number of years now offered craft based activities to our “farming” day care clients, who can come into our training room for one third of their day with us and choose to take part in one of the craft projects that we offer.
We now are able to offer full day and half day placements to adults with learning difficulties and/or mental health issues to come to the farm for the indoor craft activities. As with the farming based day care, there is a charge for these placements that can usually be covered within the persons personal budget from Social Services.
As far as possible we try to base our craft projects on farm related subjects and make use of the natural environment and resources we have around us, either for materials, or simply as inspiration for the designs of our projects.
We are not art teachers, nor are we experts in all of the things that we offer (but we are quite good at a lot of things!). We do think that as long as we are able to do something safely, then there is a lot of satisfaction to be gained by having a go at a project.
Here are some of the crafty things that we like to “have a go” at : –
- Paper crafting
- T-shirt printing
- Vinyl transfers/stickers
- Mug printing
This is not an exhaustive list, we are always happy to look into and where appropriate, try out other creative activities.
